COWES – the heart of British Yachting – a great little harbour town to wander through, with several marinas and often yacht racing to watch, and lots of lovely individual shops and restaurants. Coast is a great bar/restaurant with pizza oven, The Harbour Kitchen is cool for upmarket burgers. Saffron is the best Indian. Number 3 is a small but delicious bistro up the High Street towards the parade. And our very favourite restaurant The Smoking Lobster with contemporary and utterly delicious asian fusion seafood.

You can walk or drive along the seafront to the village of GURNARD, where there’s a lovely green, beachhuts and stony beach with an active sailing club, and the newly updated Woodvale pub overlooking the bay.

Osbourne House in EAST COWES is very interesting for all ages. See Queen Victoria’s actual bedroom, and various other authentic state rooms. And you can catch a ride or walk down to the Swiss chalet that the princes and princesses looked after. They have a good restaurant with light lunches, afternoon tea , etc. The beach with Queen Victoria’s original bathing hut is also now open with a lovely cafe.

There is a good Waitrose in East Cowes. Plus the Red Funnel ferry.

Also in EAST COWES is a really lovely small contemporary Italian / wood fired pizza restaurant called Prego. Plus the Lifeboat Pub overlooking the marina.

Down a little country lane near to us is the Folly Inn, is a good spacious family pub on the river, with good walks along the riverbank either direction.  Lovely place to sit out by the water for a refreshing drink or lunch.

Island Harbour has a new restaurant, the Cockle, for good family dining with lovely views over the marina.

In WOOTTON High Street, close to us is the lovely little Cibo restaurant, with a similar vibe to our treehouses, lots of wood and sheepskin, and an interesting twist on mediterranean food. Great for breakfast/brunch too,  plus good vegan and healthy choices.

QUARR ABBEY is a working abbey with extensive gardens and a nice homegrown cafe and produce shop, and tours & services in the large chapel there.
