RYDE is an old Victorian town that has seen better days really ! You can arrive on the Island here by Fastcat or Hovercraft. It’s best feature is the huge shallow sandy beach all along the front, with cafes and kids playparks behind. Great for kitesurfing too ! There are some quirky shops on the lower High Street leading down to the sea – worthy of a visit for contemporary unusual lovely things – like Crocus, and Beachcomber .
RT’s new contemporary restaurant in a beautiful Georgian house sits right on the seafront, has a lovely outdoor terrace and stylish indoor dining from renowned Island chef Robert Thompson. Catch restaurant down on the beach above Appley cafe does great seafood, get a table on the balcony for fabulous sunset views. Michaelangelos is an excellent traditional family Italian. There are a couple of bars here including The Black Sheep , Artisan Cocktail, and right on the harbour – Harbour House.
The restaurant Fumo33 is a good contemporary family restaurant at the top of the High Street with a nice mediterannean atmosphere. Almost opposite is a lovely deli and café Pickle and Dill.
